Q&A With Josh Derrick

What is your favorite competition at UTV Battlegrounds?
Josh: I like freestyle because it gives the competitors the opportunity to showcase what they can do without the set rules that are in other competitions.

What are some of your interests/hobbies/pastimes during your free time?
Josh: Well I like riding my motorcycle, playing video games, watching sports. I like the NFL and UFC. My favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers and my favorite fighter Cory McKenna.

Who are the role models you look up to for inspiration?
Josh:
I would say John Mulaney. I just feel like his sense of humor and my sense of humor are similar and I just love his comedy. Another inspiration is Rob Lowe. After listening to his interview on The Joe Rogan Experience, it really changed my perspective what it's like to be in the entertainment industry.

Do you have any pre-show rituals you run through?
Josh:
I always listen to Pop Smoke to hype me up.

What is your most prized possession?
Josh
: My motorcycle. It's a 2007 Yamaha V-Star 650 Custom.

What is the best and worst thing about being on the road with UTV Battlegrounds?
Josh:
The best thing is being able to travel and go places I would have never seen otherwise. I love to travel and this helps me do it. The worst thing is spending all the money I make. I love eating local and supporting local business in places where we are doing events, especially if it's a brewery.

What's something a lot people don't know about you?
Josh:
I'm a big fan of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. I don't know why, I just take it for what it's worth. That's the way entertainment should be enjoyed.

What is your favorite thing to do with your free time on the road?
Josh:
Watch documentaries on YouTube, I like to learn a lot about things.

What item can you not live without when traveling with UTV Battlegrounds?
Josh:
I would probably say a toothbrush, because I can't sleep if I don't brush my teeth. It just doesn't feel right.

What is your favorite city to travel to and why?
Josh:
Pittsburgh, I go there all the time for Steelers games.

How did you get started hosting UTV Battlegrounds?
Josh
: I fell in love with the entertainment industry and wanted to try my hand at some sort of live performance. So when I was approached with the opportunity to do this, I couldn't say no.

What advice would you give to kids that want to be a UTV Battlegrounds host?
Josh:
I had a very rare opportunity put in front of me and this isn't something everyone can do. Rather, I would tell them to shoot a little bit higher and really put in the effort. Because, as generic as that sounds, it can really produce results.

Do you have any nicknames?
Josh:
Yeah, in high school they used to call me ASAP. Honestly, some people still do.

What's your favorite type of music? Artist and song?
Josh:
My favorite type of music is hip-hop, but I'm a huge fan of classic rock and I also listen to some country. My favorite artist is Travis Scott and my favorite song is Butterfly Effect.

What's your favorite movie?
Josh
: While 1980's horror is my favorite genre, my favorite movie is actually an 1990's thriller. Pulp Fiction from the very first time I watched it became my favorite movie.

What's your favorite television show?
Josh:
If we're talking of all time, definitely Dexter on Showtime.

What's your favorite color?
Josh:
 Blue

What's your favorite thing to eat?
Josh:
Sushi, more specifically the eel roll and salmon advocado.

What's your favorite restaurant on the road?
Josh:
I got three answers for that question. My favorite restaurant is Cooper's. My favorite restaurant when we're on the road is Chipotle, but whenever I'm the the Pittsburgh area, Big Shot Bob's is a must.

How would your friends and family describe you?
Josh:
Optimistic and happy, I'm always the person that tries to look at the silver lining. My friends and family also compliment me on my sense of humor, I'm always cracking jokes.
